welcome film bros
I am THRILLED you are here! (and bonus points if you understand the blog title iykyk)
i’ll cut to the chase by saying- i watch a lot of films and I have even more thoughts about them. Up until now my thoughts have remained firmly in my head or in my notes app which i’ve decided is no good. yes i’ll think of the odd witty one liner for my letterboxd, but enough’ s enough- its time to get professional people.
My watchlist consists of approximately 234 films (and that does include Interstellar sorry, I can already hear the fans screaming at me)- so what better way to get through it then with you. This blog is partly my way of keeping track, sharing my thoughts, and working my way through that list one film at a time. From highly anticipated new releases to timeless classics I’ve somehow missed, each post will document what I watched, what I loved, what I didn’t, and what surprised me along the way.
Consider it a cinematic journey we”ll embark on together.
So my plan is this.
Share my Honest Reviews:
Forget the boring ‘thumbs up or thumbs down’ ratings- here in this blog, is where we get real. I will be documenting my unapologetically opinionated and frightfully funny (if i do say so myself) reactions to the stuff thats made me cry, laugh, question humanity, stare at a wall, dance and drop my jaw. Consider it your brutally honest, if a little sarcastic guide to whats worth watching…and what’s best avoided oops.
The Reel Deal:
Amongst the reviews, I aim to examine exactly what a film is really saying: themes, subtext, characters, cinematography, soundtrack, subtleties, editing and symbolism etceteraaaaa! See films are actually more than just love triangles or explosions or talking animals (although i’m not sure how much symbolism can be found in Alvin and the Chipmunks), so these pages will be dedicated to reveal those sneaky details that are always missed.
Here is where i’ll break it down for you (Boogie Nights style) because understanding film can be fun. From decoding moral dilemmas or a mind-bending sci-fi film to uncovering social commentary and understanding the plot twist (because there is nothing worse than having to search ‘ending explained’ at the end of the film) these pages aim to uncover those stories, emotions and ideas that are often hidden in plain sight.
Genre Safari (to explore that wild terrain of film):
Here, I dive headfirst into everything from spine-tingling horror (yes I’ll be screaming along with you) to the stunning artistry of animation. Expect explorations of different works, ones you definitely know and some hidden gems you’ve probably never heard of.
Whether your’e a casual viewer looking to dip your toes into a new genre- or a die hard cinephile hunting for your next obsession, these posts are here to guide you, entertain you and maybe even convince you that watching three hours of film noir or western horror at 2am is reasonable.
Movie Survival Guide:
Sometimes you just need a cinematic GPS- someone to tell you what to watch next without the endless scrolling and constant indecision. Whether its a weekend binge, ‘top films of the month’ or a deep dive into a particular director, I’ve got you covered. These posts may focus on genre, decades, moods, directors, or even the weirdly specific! Think of this as your trusty map through the wild, unpredictable jungle of cinema that awaits you- popcorn optional, but highly reccomended 😉
Rants, Raves and Love Letters:
Cinema is a rollercoaster: thrilling, frustrating, and sometimes completely baffling. This is where I let my mind run wild—celebrating the movies that inspire me, or professing my undying love for directors, actors, or that one perfectly framed shot that made me gasp. These posts are a mix of passion, humour, and occasional melodrama—like sending little letters to the film world, full of heart.
Now although it appears that way, this blog isn’t just about my opinions. If you’ve got a take, a rant or even a cinematic diamond, you think the world needs to see, I want to know!
Think of this as a shared diary, where your voice matters just as much as mine. Send in your reviews, lists or musings and I’ll happily feature them on the blog!
Grab a seat, a snack and a notebook, things are about to get cinematic…
